Entry Number 26 - Trying to Find The Bright Side

Last night as I sat and thought about giving myself my Insulin injection, I took the time to reflect on the positives.

1. Only 1 needle per day (at this point anyway).

2. The insulin can be injected at room temperature, so less likely to sting

3. I only have to give it to myself at bedtime (at this point anyway), which means I can now think about going out for breakfast or dinner without carrying it with me.

4. If I do have to start giving it to myself more often, I don't have to carry the cooler bag with me, so it is more discrete.

5. I don't have to rush home to make sure I have enough time before my evening meal to give myself an injection.

It is still stressing me about the weight gain that is inevitable, but at least there is a slight new spin happening in my head, which is good.

So I won't put up a dark moon today, nor a bright orange one, in fact I will leave it blank, and take the pressure off there as well.

Thanks for popping by xxx

  1. Now that is sounding so much more positive today than the previous post which gladdens my heart. I think you may be starting off on the same regime I began on. Only problem you may have is with the length of the pen but I am sure you will cope OK especially as it is all going to be so much easier. I know you will succeed as so many people love you and you won't want to let them down let alone let yourself down. xxxx

    1. Just trying hard to deal Mum. I will cope, but I am truly stick and tired of coping.

  2. Be kind to yourself. As kind as you are to others. Which sounds simple and, for most of the women I know, just doesn't happen. You are allowed to have down days. You are allowed to have a bit of a moan, and a paddle in the pity pool as well. You wouldn't be human if you didn't.
That said, I am happy to see faint glimmers of light in this post. Have a wonderful weekend.

    1. Love it, a bit of a paddle in the pity pool - that bought a big smile to my face - thanks EC. Thanks for always being here and indulging my moans and groans but finding a positive spin for me too. xxx

  3. Ok. So I'm guessing they've prescribed a very long acting insulin at bed time. This will hopefully (if the dose is right. This can take weeks, as Doctors tend to titrate more slowly than we do. Talk to him about whether it's ok with you to titrate yourself. If your BGLs are consistently to high in the mornings, then go up by 2 units or so every second day, is how I do it).

I'm sorry about the weight issue. Hopefully you won't need a terribly high dose, and at this stage, just the one type of insulin. I'm hoping that you find it isn't too bad as far as that side of things go. May I ask what you're on?

    1. Hi Lissa, yes Lantus is the insulin I am injecting, and just being on 10 at night seems to have dropped my BGL by a whole point - still high so will dial up to 12 tonight. Thanks for stopping by and caring and sharing xxx
